Ask a Question...

What is the difference between Original, Compatible and Remanufactured cartridges?

Original

An original ink cartridge is the branded product of the printer manufacturer. Therefore, if you have a Canon printer, the original ink cartridge will be manufactured by Canon. As you would expect the printer manufacturer will always encourage consumers to buy their own branded product. Original ink cartridges used in conjunction with original papers can often give the best possible results for high quality photographic prints.

Compatible

A compatible ink cartridge is a new cartridge (not refilled) produced by a third party manufacturer. They are predominately sold under 'own label' branding and they have no connection with the original manufacturer. Our compatibles are manufactured to the highest standards, which often exceed the original product. All our compatible ink cartridges are fully guaranteed and if you are not completely satisfied with their performance you get your money back. (conditions may apply)

Remanufactured

A remanufactured ink cartridge is a previously used cartridge, which has been reprocessed (cleaned, refilled and electronically tested) by a third party manufacturer. By buying a remanufactured ink cartridge you are helping reduce the number of cartridges that are disposed in UK landfill sites. Our remanufactured ink cartridges are cheaper than the original ink cartridges and are fully guaranteed. If you are not completely satisfied with their performance you get your money back.(conditions may apply)

My printer reference is not on the cartridge box. Why is that?

Each cartridge type is often used in many different printers. As the printer manufacturers frequently release new printer models, we can often have stock where the packaging does not contain the latest model list.

This is especially true for Canon & Epson compatible cartridges; in reality there are too many printers to list the complete range on a single cartridge box. Due to our minimal picking error rate, is is very unlikely that we have sent you the wrong cartridge.

You can check that you have the correct cartridges by comparing the cartridge models listed for your printer against a printer listed on the box using the information on our website, if the cartridge model numbers match you have infact received the correct cartridges!

Can I remove a compatible cartridge once installed?

Only remove a compatible cartridge, once the ink is completely used. Removing before all the ink is used will render the cartridge unusable.

What is the recommended installation procedure for ink cartridges?

Step One: Remove the seal

Remove the seal which keeps the ink in a storable state, this is usually a small plastic lip to be snapped off, or a sticky tape seal which is to be removed. If this is not done correctly the ink cartridge will either supply insufficient ink to the print job or simply not work at all. Also be sure to properly close the ink cartridge caddy covers.

This may seem an obvious stage, but it is easily forgotten, and is critical to successful installation.

Step Two: Align the Heads

The second stage requires the use of the printer's software utilities. These can usually be found in Control Panel... Printers.

Though it is normally an automatic process performed by the printer, you are able to initiate the process manually from the print utilities menu, and may need to if the automated function is not performed successfully.

Step Three: Clean the Heads

Once the alignment is complete it is recommended that you clean the printheads. Again, this is usually an automatic process. However it may need to be done more than once, the option for this is also found within your print utilities menu.

If this is not done the print may appear to be missing lines or even missing entire colours, in order to stop this waste of ink and time please check the test page printed by your computer is satisfactory.

Step Four: Final Check

Having run the utilities in Steps 2 and 3, your printer should be properly and ready for normal operation. It is now possible to go ahead with any pending print jobs, however it is recommended that you print something colourful on to a plain piece of paper, and also some plain black text, just to check that everything is in working order before possibly ruining an expensive piece of paper.

If you complete these tests with no problems then you have successfully installed your new Ink Jet cartridge(s). However should there be any problems with either of these test pages simply repeat the above steps, in particular step 3

Finally, as a general rule, ink jet cartridges should be used within the recommended 24 months from the date of purchase, and 6 months from the time the cartridge is installed into the printer.

Why does the ink level indicator still show the cartridge is low after I insert my new Snap n Print refill cartridge?

The cartridge will continue to print. The print head contains the electrical contacts that communicate with your printer. Because the print head is being re-used, the printer thinks that you have inserted an old 'empty' cartridge. There is no way to re-set this information so your printer will show the low ink level but will continue to print as before. You will be able to see if your refill starts to run dry when your print quality begins to fade - then you know it's time for a new Snap n Print refill.
