40% still print pictures
Monday 07 August, 2006
Four out of ten people print their digital photos despite an increase in the number of people using online photo albums for their snaps.
According to a survey carried out by YouGov on behalf of Symantec, three out of ten do not bother to print any of their pictures at all, despite the convenience of photo printers and the ease of buying printer ink refills.
However, this could cause a potential problem, as people are also not backing-up their digital photographs meaning if something goes wrong with their memory card, it's goodbye pictures.
With people opting to not print hard copies using a photo printer and not saving them elsewhere, three in ten people risk losing their pictures forever if their camera was to break or get lost or stolen.
And with people seemingly taking more pictures than ever before, the incentive to print may grow if people are aware how easily their pictures could be lost.
"It's so easy now. In the past, every time you put a colour negative film in and pressed the button, it was costing you money," said John Long, from the Digital Imaging Group of the Royal Photographic Society, according to the BBC.
The survey considered the opinions of 2,227 consumers.
