Blu-ray storage products to be available in Q3
Thursday 20 July, 2006
Verbatim, the information storage products company, has announced that Blu-ray rewritable and recordable media will be available in the UK during the third quarter of the year.
The company has said that the first products will have a storage capacity of 25GB and will be available in write-one or rewritable formats.
"Blu-ray will revolutionise the media industry as the discs will allow far greater storage capacity than is possible with CD and DVD technology," said Ron Stuart, general manager of Verbatim UK
"Verbatim's products have a ScratchGuard coating and will withstand finger print smudges as well as being dirt and dust repellant. They are also less sensitive to ultraviolet light and have successfully passed the 'steel wool' test - this involves a steel wool cloth being rubbed against our Blu-ray discs to simulate possible day-to-day hazards."
Blu-ray media is the next step in storage as the blue laser uses a shorter wavelength and smaller data pits, Mr Stuart said, meaning more data can be stored on a single disc than with DVDs or CDs.
The discs are also characterised with excellent playback performance, so whether used at home or in the office, Blu-ray discs are set to be the next big thing in storage.
