Canon announces new prototype 50-mega-pixel sensor

In news which may be of interest to users of
Lexmark laser printers and
HP A4 photo gloss laser paper, Canon has unveiled details of a new prototype CMOS sensor.
Sporting a resolution of 50 mega-pixels, the new sensor is able to create a 6x4 photographic print with a resolution of 1,333dpi, despite having a physical size of 19x28mm, reports Wired.
"This new sensor is twice the resolution of even the closest competitor," said Pocket-lint.
"There are no plans to launch this just yet, so we can rest easy for now with our measly, pathetic [and low resolution] digi-cams. Sigh," the website added.
In related news, according to photographer, consultant and blogger Rob Galbraith and reported by cnet News, Canon is reported to be pondering the introduction of a new file format for use in digital cameras, which may be of interest to users of
Canon printer cartridges and
HP A4 superior laser paper.
