Canon 'leads' with digital camera sales

In news which may be of interest to users of
Canon laser toner cartridges and
Canon printer cartridges, Canon has emerged as the leading company of 2006 in terms of digital camera shipments.
According to research firm IDC, in 2006 the Japan-based firm accounted for 18.7 per cent of the overall market with 19.7 million shipments; however, according to IDC, Samsung was the "winner" of 2006 despite ranking fifth, reports Reuters.
Last year, the South Korean firm increased its market share to 7.8 per cent, raising its position from ninth place during the previous year.
"The big winner in 2006 was Samsung, who displaced Nikon and became the fifth-largest seller of digital cameras in the world," said Christopher Chute, an analyst with IDC.
Nikon came in sixth in the digital camera rankings, with a share of 7.6 per cent.
However, the firm remains the second largest manufacturer of professional cameras, which may interest users of
Lexmark printer cartridges and
Lexmark laser printers.
IDC was established in 1964.
