Consumers and businesses opt for MFDs
Tuesday 31 October, 2006
Multifunction printers, also known as MFDs (multifunction devices) are increasingly finding favour with consumers and businesses, according to the latest figures from Canon.
In announcing its results for the third quarter of the year, Canon noted that despite the fact that while there was a sales decline in single-function inkjet printers, MFDs such as the PIXMA MP160, helped drive a ten per cent value sales increase.
Canon has said that the trend that can be seen with consumers looking to MFDs over single-function models can also be seen in the business market, with a demand for colour versions replacing the need for monochrome-only toner using MFDs.
The company has also said that it expects a shift towards lower-priced models to continue in the near future, driven by consumers who are enjoying a price competitive market.
"As for network digital MFDs and laser beam printers, while demand is projected to shift toward full-colour models, severe price competition and shifting demand toward lower-priced models are expected to continue," the company said, in its outlook statement.
With more consumers and businesses increasingly looking to the MFD market for their printers, colour toner supplies could soon need to be topped up!
