Cost of leaving your inkjet on
Tuesday 07 November, 2006
With the issue of climate change currently dominating the political agenda, part of the focus has fallen on electrical goods, such as printers.
Last week, Warwickshire acted together to promote a day where everyone switched off their appliances to encourage them to notice how much electricity they waste.
It can also save a lot of money, with statistics from Warwickshire County Council revealing the incredible cost of leaving your inkjet printer on.
An inkjet printer left on standby for 20 hours on a regular basis would cost an astonishing £33 per year. That's enough to buy some fresh printer ink if only we switched off our printers rather than hitting the standby button.
"It really doesn't take a lot to think about saving energy. You are not only saving the planet from the comfort of your own home, but also cutting your own electricity bill by up to 25 per cent," said Martin Heatley, the councillor in charge of environment policies for the county council, according to Leamington Spa Today.
Methods to tackle climate change and promote recycling are promoted by some companies. Dell has recently introduced a recycling initiative in China.
