Dell looks to challenge for cartridge market share

Dell has claimed that it is looking to establishing "new standards" in printing and printer cartridges as it looks to challenge Hewlett-Packard (HP) in the market.
According to an article in The Business, Dell is looking to make up some ground on printer cartridge-selling leader HP, which currently has 54 per cent of the market compared with Dell's minor share of seven per cent.
"We intend to stamp our footprint on the UK market and establish new industry standards for printer technology," said Josh Claman, head of the British arm of Dell, according to The Business.
"As soon as we gain market share of 20 per cent or over, we will make our printer technology the proprietary standard."
Technology website Gizmondo recently drew consumer attention to the high cost of printer ink, with HP ink used for a comparison of costs of certain 'liquids'.
HP printer ink was found to cost 37p per millilitre (ml), compared with 21p per ml for human blood and 31p per ml for penicillin, according to a graph on the site.
