Epson's China price cut could be good for UK consumers

Epson could have sparked something of a printer cartridge price drop frenzy following its decision to slash printer cartridge prices in China.
According to vnunet, the decision by Epson to reduce the price of printer ink in China could mean that other companies - such as HP and Lexmark - respond by dropping their prices too, across a number of regions.
"If this strategy sells printers, competitors will have no choice but to respond in kind, and not just in China," said Jiqiang Rong, director of primary research at Lyra Research, according to vnunet.
This could be great news for UK consumers if the price drops take effect here, with the potential for lower prices across the board from many of the big names in printing.
And the Lyra director also added that this could see the end of the "razor and blade" system of printer selling, where the printers are sold at a loss and the money is made back through the cost of the consumables.
Epson currently manufactures printer ribbons, ink cartridges and laser toners for use with its printers.
