GelSprinter could be future of inkjet
Friday 04 August, 2006
Lanier, the subsidiary of Ricoh, has said that the future of inkjet printing lies with the new GelSprinter technology.
Recently, Ricoh said that its new Aficio 615 (C) printer would use the new technology and now Lanier has said it will play an integral part in its new printers.
The reason there is so much fuss over the GelSprinter technology is that the companies claim it will change the inkjet printing landscape.
"These printers [that have the GelSprinter technology] provide very low total cost of ownership and the ability to deliver laser-like colour quality," said Dominic Pontrelli, vice president of marketing for Lanier.
"They are rewriting the rules of inkjet printing. The key is GelSprinter technology, which brings together a stunning array of innovations in a simple desktop design."
GelSprinter uses pigment ink that is suspended in a gel, allowing the ink to 'sit-up' on the page, Lanier has said. It also dries immediately when it comes into contact with air to eliminate smudging.
If GelSprinter technology catches on in the UK, be sure to see plenty of calls for printer ink refills for the clever new ink system.
