Greener Canon
Wednesday 13 September, 2006
Canon has unveiled a new range of printers of an environmentally-friendly bent.
The six new multifunction models save energy by printing at speeds of up to 51ppm and having a warm up time of just 30 seconds.
In addition, the machines use power far more efficiently when switching off or in standby mode than previous models.
The measures are designed to cut down on high energy-expending usage patterns and are evidence of Canon's desire to see companies opting for more environmentally friendly products.
"Companies are looking for increased predictability in cost and to be good corporate citizens," David Smith, Canon's marketing director, told IT Week.
"A lot of them are appointing corporate social responsibility directors and we're seeing more and more tenders asking to see what Canon does in that regard."
Canon has also launched its Small Steps programme, which encourages firms to use double side printing and reduce general power and paper use.
