HP: New cartridges contain 'optimal amount' of ink
Wednesday 19 July, 2006
HP has said that the cartridges that come with new printers contain the "optimal amount of ink or toner" for people who print only occasionally.
With many printers aimed at consumers who only use their inkjet or laser to print off letters to friends and family or CVs for that latest job application, HP has suggested that cartridges filled with less ink are perfect for new customers.
This also allows the company to keep the cost of new printers at a level acceptable to members of the public, with an HP spokesperson saying that customers are "sensitive to purchase prices", according to website Personal Computer World.
HP also said that its prices for printer cartridges are recommended to retailers "at a level designed to give value to customers, whatever their needs", suggesting that customers on a whole range of budgets can experience the delights of seeing their work in print.
The company advised that little used products could have a tendency to degrade, emphasising why the company fits new printers with 'low use' cartridges.
