HP printer cartridge recycling helps green drive
Thursday 25 January, 2007
Recycling of HP printer cartridges and HP hardware carried out by the company increased by 16 per cent in 2006.
Some 74 million kg (164 million lb) of HP printer cartridges and hardware were recycled by the company last year, pushing their total recycled weight to 417 million kg (920 million lb).
"Closing in on our one billion lb goal is yet another example of HP's commitment to reducing impact on the environment," said Pat Tiernan, vice president, corporate, social and environmental responsibility, HP.
"Part of environmental responsibility at HP is to provide global recycling programmes that give our customers choice, convenience and control in how to dispose of products responsibly."
HP recycling programmes, including the recycling of HP printer cartridges, have been run by the company for 20 years in a bid to reduce the environmental impact of the IT industry.
With a number of charities also offering printer cartridge recycling for Epson printer cartridges, Canon printer cartridges and Lexmark printer cartridges too, there is no reason to just throw that empty printer cartridge in the bin.
