HP printers prove popular

Hewlett Packard (HP) announced a healthy set of quarterly results at the end of last week, boosted by strong sales of printers and other PC peripherals.
The US technology giant saw revenues rise to $24.6 billion (£12.9 billion), a year-on-year growth of seven per cent, with imaging and printing proving to be the firm's most profitable business.
HP's imaging and printing group saw revenues grow by seven per cent to $7.3 billion, with a $1.1 billion operating profit, suggesting more people are buying HP printers.
Printer supply sales, like replacement cartridges for printers, rose by nine per cent, while printer unit shipments were up 17 per cent over the same time last year.
Sales of consumer printer units rose by 16 per cent over the quarter, while commercial printer units rose 20 per cent.
In more specialist print markets HP delivered particularly strong results. Sales of appliance photo printers rose by 70 per cent, colour laser printer shipments were up 40 per cent, and printer-based MFP shipments soared by 160 per cent suggesting HP printers are proving popular for all kinds of functions.
HP chairman Mark Hurd said: "We closed a strong year with solid revenue growth, margin expansions across our key businesses and excellent cash flow from operations. We are well on our way to building a more competitive HP."
