Kodak aims to 'revolutionise' printer cartridge costs
Wednesday 07 February, 2007
Kodak is launching an assault on the inkjet printer market, with low cost printer ink cartridges and quality digital photo prints the mantra behind its move.
The company is looking to challenge the domination of
HP printer cartridges and
Epson printer cartridges in the inkjet market, something that Kodak admits will "revolutionise" the industry.
"It's a big market out there; it's a £22 billion market on a worldwide basis on the whole inkjet home printing market. The consumer base is existing and there's too many people paying too much for ink for too long," Jaime Cohen Szulc, head of Kodak in Europe, told BBC Radio Five Live's Wake Up to Money programme.
"We came here to revolutionise this market and the revolution we are causing is offering premium inks and lab quality pictures at half the cost."
HP recently announced that it would be launching a range of better value
HP printer cartridges, offering high volume users of
HP printer cartridges better value for money.
At the launch of Kodak's new inkjet market assault, Antonio M Perez, chairman and chief executive officer of the Eastman Kodak Company, said that the cost of printer cartridges has left consumers feeling "restrained".
