New inks fuel Epson printer launches

Wednesday 29 November, 2006

Epson has launched two new ranges of printers – aimed at schools, small business and home users – with new printer ink technology in mind.

Four printers have been launched in the company's Durabrite ultra ink range, with the focus on schools and small businesses. All four printers offer Epson's PhotoEnhance, for auto-correcting of digital photos.

The Stylus DX4000 and DX6000 are joined by the Stylus D78 and D88 plus, with print speeds for monochrome ranging from 22 pages per minute (ppm) on the D78 to 27 ppm on the top-of-the-range DX6000. The DX4000 and DX6000 can also be used as colour photocopiers.

Epson's R265, R360, PM280 and Stylus Photo RX560 make up the second range of printers launched by the company, with home users more in mind.

Again, all four printers feature the PhotoEnhance software and all use a new dye-based ink called Claria Photographic ink.

While the £200 PM280 is a standalone printer that is Bluetooth enabled, LCD screens can be found on the R360 and RX560 allowing printing ease.

"Consumers are looking more towards their home to print pictures and require shop quality to do so. This is why we are continually developing new ink, printing and paper technologies," said Mark Robinson, product manager for consumer photo products at Epson UK, according to Computeractive.

The R265 is the entry level model in the new launch, a basic printer that can easily be hooked up to a PC.
