Plans unveiled for new Canon CMOS production plant

In news which may be of interest to users of

Canon printer cartridges, Canon is to develop a new factory for the production of CMOS imaging sensors, it has emerged.
Located in Kawasaki, Japan, the new plant is to be developed at a cost of approximately ¥55 billion (£221 million) and is expected to become operational in 2008, reports Japan's Nikkei.
The new plant will be developed to include facilities for research and development.
"This year we celebrate our 70th anniversary. Established in 1937 as a camera manufacturer, Canon has grown into a global company by diversifying into new business fields, beginning with office equipment," said Canon.
"Canon has
transformed itself from a company relying on a 20th-century sales-oriented management approach, to one that employs a 21st-century profit-oriented approach," the company added.
According to reports, the new plant will contain production facilities sufficient for the development of approximately three million single-lens reflex cameras, which may interest users of
Epson photo printers and
Lexmark laser printers.
