Printer cartridge standards to benefit consumers
Thursday 25 January, 2007
Consumers will now have more consistent information about printer cartridges following the publication by UK trade association Intellect of the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) standards for ink and colour laser printer cartridge yield.
Epson printer cartridges, Lexmark printer cartridges and Canon printer cartridges are among those that consumers will be able to investigate using a planned website.
The website will show details of inkjet printer cartridge packaging as well as details of printer cartridge product yield and training for channel partners and resellers about the importance of yield for consumers.
"These standards will help consumers have consistent and easy to understand cartridge yield information for the printers they are buying," said Steve Foster, head of Intellect's Printer Manufacturer Group.
"Through their national standards bodies, Intellect members Canon, Epson, HP and Lexmark, have participated along with a number of other stakeholders in the ISO process to develop printer cartridge yield standards."
Publication of the new standards for printer cartridges and laser toner follows the 2004 ISO/IEC yield standard for monochrome toner cartridges.
