Verbatim releases gold and silver-layered DVD-Rs

Verbatim, the data storage technology company, has announced the release of a new DVD-R product that it says offers longer data storage than previous DVD-R media.
The new Archival Grade DVD-R product has both a gold and silver reflective layer that provides benefits to media storage. While the gold layer acts as a resistor to oxidation, the silver layer offers precise reading and writing via the laser.
"The DVD-R markets are growing very quickly worldwide. As a result DVD media moved from being a professional product to being a consumer product and commodity," said Torsten Leye, DVD marketing manager optical at Verbatim GmbH in Eschborn.
Mr Leye said the products have been developed to match the needs of professional users, archivists and private users, who want the improved media storage options for a range of reasons, including legal ones.
A great benefit of the Archival Grade DVD-R product is that it has an inkjet writable surface, meaning you can print directly onto the CD with an inkjet printer, while the discs also feature the Verbatim Scratch Guard to keep them scratch-free.
Verbatim also offers a range of inkjet printable CD-Rs, available in jewel case packs or in spindle packs.
