WCRF encourages cartridge recycling
Wednesday 27 September, 2006
The World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) is encouraging the recycling of printer ink cartridges in its latest campaign.
Each recycled cartridge equates to a £1 donation for the WCRF and with the charity saying that 65 million printer ink cartridges are bought every year in the United Kingdom alone, the campaign should definitely help their cause.
"This is fundraising for charity made easy. All we ask is that people look for the freepost envelope at their local surgery, pick one up and put their old printer cartridge in the post," said Linda Ellis, senior fundraising manager at WCRF, according to The Recycler.
"It's both good for the environment and helps fund innovative scientific research and our extensive education programmes."
Currently, however, only approximately ten per cent of UK printer cartridges are being recycled, despite the benefits to the environment. In landfill sites, cartridges can take up to 1,000 years to decompose, The Recycler reports.
