Women could be the answer to printer problems
Thursday 27 July, 2006
Next time the lights on your printer start flashing, and you don't just need a printer ink refill, you may want to ask your wife or girlfriend for the solution.
According to Canon, women are more likely to try and fix a gadget or piece of technology when it malfunctions, with 57 per cent admitting they would try this course of action. Only 44 per cent of men said the same, with many apparently admitting to hitting the machine several times before walking away.
The reason for this could lie in a woman's approach to a piece of home or office technology, such as a printer. More than half of women asked said they read the instruction manual, compared to just 34 per cent of men.
"Men get frustrated when they don't understand how something works and we've all been there something goes wrong with a device in the office and we tend to turn it on and off a few times before resorting to hitting it," commented Andy Vickers, managing director of Canon UK.
"Women show more patience with gadgets in general and can be a calming influence when something goes wrong."
With 80 per cent of women surveyed saying they owned a digital camera, which can often be connected directly to a photo printer, this could highlight their affinity with such technology.
