'A monkey is a dog's best friend'
Friday 09 March, 2007
An unlikely duo have forged a strong friendship in northern Mozambique.
Following a flood in 2002, Kiko the monkey and Billy the dog have become good friends, choosing to sleep, walk and eat together; the site of a thin looking dog and a little monkey as his travelling companion are reportedly now quite a common sight.
The pair are thought to have become close after trying to survive during the floods and are now living with a family in Caia
Mozambique also experienced floods in 2000 and 2001, which affected a number of areas including the Limpopo, Zambezi and Save valleys.
"In 2000 half a million people were made homeless and 700 lost their lives. The floods destroyed crops and overwhelmed water and sanitation infrastructure in many areas," said Oxfam.
