Deacon faces Thai monkey 'attack'
Friday 02 March, 2007
English Rugby League player Paul Deacon faced an attack by a gang of white monkeys on a recent honeymoon trip to Thailand.
The attack occurred on a small Thai beach which is famous for its white monkeys; while Paul was taking photographs, the monkeys turned a little nasty and decided to take on the crowd of holiday-goers, reports The Sun.
"I had to sidestep them and I've never run as fast in my entire life," said Mr Deacon.
"[However,] two of them still caught me and were clawing at me," he added.
Although initially sceptical of the danger, Paul had decided that other tourists were correct to run into the sea.
In Thailand, monkeys are often revered as a result of the importance of the story of Ramayana in Thai culture.
Based on the Indian story of Ramayakien, the story tells of a monkey's help to rescue the wife of Rama after being kidnapped by Ravana, a demon.
