Korean tourist files complaint against 'monkey business'

A South Korean tourist has filed a complaint in India after a monkey pilfered a pair of reading glasses, it has emerged.
According to reports, the incident occurred in the northern city of Varanasi - the monkey is known to have exploited the vulnerability of an open window and purloined the glasses in full view of the victim.
"It is difficult to trace the monkey but I am trying my best to locate the rogue," said Inspector Govind Singh, the investigating officer for the case.
"[However,] we can't do anything. We cannot shoot them or beat them as Hindus worship monkeys," he added.
Although part of the frame was later recovered by hotel staff, incidents involving harassment by monkeys occurs frequently, according to Inspector Singh.
In India, monkeys are venerated as manifestations of the god Hindu god Hanuman, who is also known by the names Maruti and Pavan-putra.
