Miss Scotland 'courts controversy' with monkey jibe
Friday 16 March, 2007
Nicola McLean, the current Miss Scotland, has been accused of racism after calling Samantha Mumba "a monkey" on a live radio show.
Although insisting she is not racist, Ms McLean has apologised for her comment which was made during a live debate on Glasgow's Radio Clyde.
"I am new to this job and have learned that sometimes flippant remarks can be perceived in a negative manner," said Ms McLean.
"There was no malice or premeditated thought here, just a simple mistake and for that I am truly sorry," she added.
The comment was made after Samantha Mumba was described as "attractive" by one of the show's presenters.
In related Samantha Mumba news, a "comeback concert" that was scheduled for March 2nd had to be cancelled because of poor ticket sales.
