Monkeys Q up for dig at Take That
Tuesday 31 October, 2006
The Q Awards proved to be monkey heaven last night as Sheffield rockers the Arctic Monkeys took home two awards from the event.
Following a somewhat hectic 12 months for the Monkeys, which saw the release of their debut album, Whatever People Say I Am That's What I'm Not, the band was honoured with a gong for that (Best Album) and one for being the people's choice.
Also celebrating a double win were fellow northerners Oasis, who were named Best Act in the World Today. Noel Gallacher received the Classic Songwriter prize and had a jokey word about absent brother Liam.
"He's gone to the zoo. The monkeys are bringing their kids to go and have a look at him," Noel said.
But that wasn't the only somewhat cheeky comment made on the night, with the Arctic Monkeys and Oasis both slighting reformed boy band Take That.
Lead monkey Alex Turner slammed the boy band, who received the Q Idol award, while Noel claimed that if Liam had been there, the 90s heartthrobs wouldn't have been able to "imagine the mindless abuse".
