Sheffield band not 'monkeying around'
Monday 30 April, 2007
A band from Sheffield are set to dominate the UK charts, it has emerged.
A feat not seen in the British music charts since the height of Beatlemania, the UK's Arctic Monkeys are set to have 18 songs appearing in the top 200, reports London's Evening Standard.
The Arctic Monkeys are able to benefit from a change of rules allowing internet downloads to be counted in chart results, as individual tracks from earlier albums can now enter the top 200 chart.
"You'd probably have to go back to the heyday of the Beatles in the sixties to find anything that could come close to matching this record," said Gennaro Castaldo, a spokesman for HMV, a Britain-based retailer.
"Looking slightly further ahead, it adds fuel to the suggestion that the Beatles will dominate the top 40 once their songs are made individually available for download," he added.
Comprehensive data will be available once record and internet sales have been comprehensively totalled.
The band's Brainstorm appeared at number six in the UK top 40 download chart last week, according to Yahoo! Music.
