A history of Lexmark
Friday 29 June, 2007
Compared with companies such as Canon or Seiko Epson, the history of Lexmark does not travel quite so far back in time. Founded in 1991, Lexmark is in fact a spin-off organisation that started life as the manufacturing division of IBM's printing interests. However, despite its origins, the company is now an international organisation with more than 13,000 employees around the world. Perhaps in recognition of its origins, however, the company's headquarters are still in Lexington, Kentucky and may be of interest to users of

Lexmark laser printers and printers such as the
Lexmark C510.
"Lexmark has been transformed from an ambitious start-up to a $5.3 billion [£2.6 billion] enterprise. The company has reported nine per cent compound annual growth in revenue and achieved earnings per share compounded growth of 13 per cent over the past five years. Shareholders have rewarded that financial success with an increase in share price since going public in November 1995 that significantly outpaced the S&P500 during that period," said Lexmark.
At present, the company's product portfolio is structured to meet the expectations and needs of a number of different target audiences, ranging from the home user to large corporations and enterprises, and encompassing both inkjet and laser printers. Indeed, for the home market alone, the company produces a range of colour inkjet printers, together with a number of multifunction devices. Furthermore, its business and home user range is able to sport compatibility with both Microsoft Windows and Apple's Mac OS X operating system, which may interest users of
Epson photo printers and

Indeed, the company firmly believes that on a number of occasions, it has been at the forefront of innovation, including being the first organisation to promote printing resolutions of 3,600x1,200dpi and 4,800x1,200dpi, in addition to be able to offer an inkjet printing device below the $100 threshold. Perhaps a testament to the company's dedication to firsts, the company has received recognition of its efforts through a number of awards; last year in the UK, Lexmark won awards for a number of products within its colour and monochrome portfolio - colour inkjet printers were also the recipients of awards.
"Lexmark's commitment to innovation, ownership of technology and a unique path to market have been the ingredients of operational and financial success," the company added.
Although the company does not openly display its strategies for the future, it may perhaps be safe to assume that any direction it chooses to follow will remain in commitment to its policies on the environment. Indeed, as part of its commitment, Lexmark has created its own environmental programme, which affects not only the management of resources, but also the manner in which products are designed and brought to market.
Indeed, in the company's own words, "Lexmark is an environmentally responsible neighbour and employer. That is why we have environmental management systems, consistently adhere to regulatory compliance and venture into community partnerships".
