Army chooses HP

Some recommendations for printers carry a little more sway than others. The US army has signed a deal with Hewlett-Packard (HP) regarding the provision of laptop computers, scanners, desktops and printers.
The contract, valued at $5 billion (£2.65 billion) over a ten-year period, is about all the recommendation you should need to buy up the entire supply of HP printer cartridges and get printing.
Under the terms of the deal, the army, the Department of Defence, foreign military sales, federal agencies and authorised government contractors are allowed to order as much equipment as they want from HP.
Dell, the computer and printer manufacturer, is also involved in the deal, which has a number of 24 and 12-month option periods following the initial 36-month base period.
It is not known whether the army intends to take the printers into the field, where they could be used for printing digital photographs easily and quickly.
