Customers issued with ink warning
Thursday 05 July, 2007
Businesses and consumers could be regularly throwing away their ink cartridges before they have run out of ink, new research states.
This could be because some printers are not noting the ink levels, but the number of copies that have been produced, reports First Coast News.
Customers with
Lexmark printer cartridges,
Canon printer cartridges,
Epson printer cartridges and other products could therefore be wasting ink.
"From what we find doing inks here ourselves is that we do get cartridges back that have a quarter full left in it. And it's kind of odd that the machine would tell you to change the cartridge with ink in it, but it happens," said Mike Baker of Cartridge World, the firm which conducted the study.
"A lot of it has to do with page counting. The printer likes to page count, so that's what they do."
In related news earlier this week, it emerged that Cryptography Research is developing new technology to help reduce ink cartridge piracy.
