Epson announces development of 'next-generation' print head
Thursday 29 March, 2007
Seiko Epson Corporation has announced the development of a new "next-generation" print head for inkjet printers, which may be of interest to users of
Epson printer cartridges and
Canon printer cartridges.
Scheduled to enter mass production in April 2007, the new thin-film piezo element print head is reported to offer distortion levels greater than are currently available on the market; the print nozzle of the head offers up to 360 dots-per-inch (dpi).
"Inkjet systems are currently attracting a great deal of attention as they are being put to user more and more frequently in printing and manufacturing processes," said Epson.
"[This technology has] the advantages of being ideally suited to small print loads and of being gentler on the environment," the company added.
Current micro-piezo print technology offers a density of up to 180dpi, which may be of interest to users of printers such as the
Epson Stylus Photo R1800 and the
Epson PictureMate 240.
In addition to inkjet printers, Epson also manufactures scanning equipment and photo viewers.
