HP and Amazon to take on publishers
Thursday 07 December, 2006
Hewlett-Packard (HP) has decided to take on the book publishing world with its latest delivery to the internet retailer Amazon.
The online bookseller has received delivery of three HP Indigo printers, which will be the printing force behind Amazon.com's books on demand service, according to reports.
"The Indigo system is intended to match offset in quality, but be more flexible in terms of run size," said Paul Randall, HP Indigo marketing manager for the UK and Ireland, according to Computer Business Review.
Amazon's service produces full-colour books, as well as colour covers to replace black and white ones. The process utilises the HP Indigo printers' seven-colour presses.
HP currently offers seven different versions of the Indigo printer presses, aimed at either commercial or industrial printing.
It also has an HP Indigo Production Stream Server and an HP Production flow system to help you track, run and manage print jobs efficiently and effectively.
