Printer sales hit 22 million in first half of year
Wednesday 30 August, 2006
The number of multifunction printers (MFP), copiers and page printers shipped in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region reached 22 million in the first half of 2006.
According to research by Gartner, the five per cent rise was mostly due to the strong performance of colour page copier and inkjet MFP sales, which rose by 98 per cent and 24 per cent respectively.
"HP excelled in the colour page market by gaining 14 per cent market share points from its competitors in the second quarter of 2006, which helped the company secure its domination in the first half of 2006," said principal analyst at Gartner Cecile Drew, according to vnunet.com.
"HP also performed well in the inkjet market thanks to a good mix of MFPs and printer offerings, an aggressive advertising campaign across Europe and competitive prices."
Consumer demand for single function inkjet printers suffered as people looked towards solutions for their photo printing needs.
Brother, which experienced a 42 per cent sales growth in the first half of the year, was the period's top performer.
