93% aware of eco impact of printing
Monday 18 December, 2006
More than nine out of ten (93 per cent) office workers realise the impact that printing in the workplace can have on the environment, the latest research from Lexmark has revealed.
The company surveyed more than 500 UK office workers, with 85 per cent of those saying that their workplace behaviour is environmentally friendly.
Recycling computer cartridges is something that just over half (53 per cent) of office workers actually do, despite the fact that more than this – 65 per cent – say their empty cartridges are collected by the manufacturer.
Disappointingly, 14 per cent still throw their empty cartridges straight in the bin, when they could get a printer ink cartridge refill as another option.
When it comes to the printer itself, 45 per cent say they switch the printer off on their way out of the office at the end of the day, an encouraging sign following Canon research last week that suggested printers left on standby over the Christmas period could cost businesses more than £4.5 million in total.
As many as 87 per cent of workers said they now read emails and documents on screen rather than print them, with 32 per cent saying if they do print, they use recycled paper.
