Brother welcomes recycling initiative
Friday 28 July, 2006
Brother, the office equipment manufacturer, has welcomed the government announcement that the EU directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment will be implemented from July 1st 2007.
With many different methods of recycling available in the printer world, such as printer cartridge refills, the company has said it has long recognised the importance of recycling.
"After many years of discussion and debate, manufacturers and retailers have now been given a clear framework within which to plan," said Louise Marshall, corporate risk manager at Brother UK, according to website channelinfo.
"As a leading environmental manufacturer, Brother is already well prepared for this legislation. We have long understood that recycling is the future, and we have invested heavily in redesigning our products to reduce waste by making them easier to recycle at the end of their life."
Ms Marshall also pointed out that reuse of which printer cartridge refills are a good example will become more popular.
The percentage of reuse is expected to rise from 14 per cent to 20 per cent following the implementation of the directive, Ms Marshall added.
