Business document management costs £200bn a year

Businesses are spending more than £200 billion a year on document management methods, according to Canon.
The digital imaging and technology company has found that printing, storing and distributing documents accounts for nine per cent of a business' revenue.
"Canon offers solutions that enable a networked multi-functional printer to become the 'electronic hub' within the organisation," said Glen Mason, office marketing manager of Canon UK.
"From here businesses can store, retrieve and distribute documents electronically and securely, saving time and money and bringing order to the document chaos that currently exists."
Only 28 per cent of businesses surveyed by Canon had installed some sort of electronic document management (EDM) system in their offices, something that could potentially revolutionise document management.
Post, courier and fax alone account for nearly £70 billion annually, when it would be much easier to email the document for the recipient to print off at their own end.
