Canon looking to become bigger player in large format market
Wednesday 26 July, 2006
Printer maker Canon is aiming to dramatically increase its share of the large-format printer (LFP) market this year.
The company has appointed former Hewlett Packard executive Stewart Cobby as UK sales manager and plans to increase its LFP market share from 4.2 per cent in 2005 to 15 per cent by the end of this year, CRN reports.
Canon is keen to challenge the dominance of market leaders HP and Epson and the company claims that Mr Cobby, who worked for HP for more than five years, will work closely on promoting Canon's LFP channel.
Anne Sharp, Cannon UK product marketing manager of LFP, told CRN: "The channel is a vital part of Canon's LFP success. We will support our partners as they grow and expand their offerings to become even more profitable."
Canon has launched a total of five new LFPs this year, three of which are targeted at computer-aided design customers, and some analysts are predicting that the group will succeed in reaching its market growth target.
