Canon makes eco-strides

Canon Europe has said that its environmentally conscious efforts have taken a further step forward with the completion of the second of three stages of the international standard for environmental management systems, ISO 14001.
The standard aims to prevent pollution and support environmental protection, something many printer manufacturers and users seem to becoming more conscious of. Canon is aiming to achieve one ISO 14001 to cover all aspects of its business worldwide.
"We at Canon are deeply committed to the environment, and fully cognisant of our responsibilities beyond the everyday business domain," said Hajime Tsuruoka, president and chief executive officer of Canon Europe.
"This attitude is driven by our corporate philosophy of Kyosei – which means living and working together for the common good."
One step taken by the printer manufacturer is that its European headquarters in Holland has begun to purchase green electricity.
Last month, the Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, encouraged companies to buy recycled products in a bid to make London greener.
He said there were "fewer reasons" not to purchase and use green, recycled products.
