Canon to recall copiers
Tuesday 12 September, 2006
Canon announced today that it is set recall some 140,000 personal copiers over fears that they could catch fire.
The Japanese firm said the problem affects three compact personal copier varieties made in the country between 1987 and 1997 and that 141,218 of the devices had been recalled.
Canon claims that of the 1.87 million of the faulty copiers it sold, only around 270,000 will still be in use.
A faulty connection in the power cord is believed to be behind the problem.
"We will making some kind of response in overseas markets as well," Richard Berger, a spokesman for company said.
The announcement is expected to cost Canon around $1.7 million.
Apple and Dell were forced to recall computers last month after it was found that Sony's notebook PC batteries, used by both firms, can overheat and catch fire.
