HP demonstrates new OfficeJet

HP has demonstrated the latest product in its OfficeJet range, which utilises
HP printer cartridges, to a PC magazine, with a clever device to reduce printer vibration perhaps the highlight of the new machine.
The OfficeJet Pro K5400 boasts a clever little mechanism to reduce printer vibration, a counterweight that moves in the opposite direction to the printer head that prevents vibration, but with no detriment to the print quality to the
HP printer cartridge produced printout.
HP has said that the printer speed of the OfficeJet Pro K5400 is 36 pages per minute (ppm) in black and white and 35ppm in colour, which makes it quicker than a printer that uses
HP laser toner cartridges, according to PC Pro.
However, at this stage it seems unlikely that consumer inkjet printers, which use
HP printer cartridges in the home, will be fitted with the counterweight mechanism, due to price.
"It costs $5-$7 [£2.50-£3.55] to implement such a small feature, so it is perhaps too expensive for consumer products at this point," category marketing manager Ganesh Swaminathan, told PC Pro.
The HP OfficeJet 6310, which also uses HP inkjet printer cartridges, was recently recognised by the Sunday Times as the best printer for businesses.
