Improvements in IT infrastructure needed, says Xerox

IT infrastructure needs to be improved in businesses across Europe to accommodate 'Millennials', according to a report commissioned by printer maker Xerox.
Report author Forrester Consulting has said that Millennials refers to the technology-fluent graduates that are entering workplaces across the continent, but the report has revealed that businesses are not providing these technologically-savvy workers with the tools to get the best out of them.
"Businesses that fail to address what are now basic needs for a workforce in an always online, information-rich society will be disadvantaged," said Russell Peacock, managing director of Xerox UK.
"They will struggle to keep new graduates and to understand the needs of coming generations of partners and customers."
Millennials are workers that are no longer confused by the likes of fax machines, probably more likely to be focused on how to get the best out of the latest all-in-one printers. In relation to printing, almost seven out of ten (68 per cent) said they have access to unlimited paper printing.
In terms of resources, browser-based portals are at the disposal of the largest number of workers (70 per cent), but only two per cent have access to MP3 or MP4 players.
The president of Microsoft International recently said that specialist software for small businesses was "too expensive" for those who need it.
