Mayor makes the case for recycling
Thursday 30 November, 2006
The Mayor of London has encouraged businesses to buy and use recycled products, which are becoming increasingly popular in the office environment.
Using recycled printer paper and refilling printer ink cartridges are just two ways that small businesses and offices can be environmentally friendly when using inkjet printers.
Speaking at the Green Procurement Awards, Mayor Ken Livingstone said that recycling is playing a more and more important role in the workplace.
"There are increasingly fewer reasons not to purchase recycled products," Mr Livingstone said.
"Increased demand generated by environmentally responsible companies has led to a range of high quality and value for money products on the market."
By choosing all forms of recycled products, offices in London have saved the emission of 175,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide. It has also meant that 394,453 tonnes of waste have been diverted from landfill sites, thanks to recycling.
The awards recognised businesses that have achieved certain standards under the Green Procurement Code.
