Office technology to change by 2010
Tuesday 10 October, 2006
A reliance on portable printers or small office machines may be the way forward in the world of work, according to the latest research from Gartner.
By 2009-10, Gartner predicts that many more people will be using personally owned technology equipment such as personal computers, meaning companies will be buying less.
"Users will move seamlessly among the devices carrying their settings, as well as transferring the state of their session as they move," said Stephen Kleynhans, vice president of research at Gartner, according to vnunet.com.
This would suggest that an alternative would be company bought printers that used Bluetooth technology to allow users to connect via their laptops and notebooks wherever they are in the office.
Battery life and performance for laptop and notebook computers is also expected to improve in the intervening years, suggesting that the mobile, wireless office will be more likely.
Due to the personal ownership of computers and workplace technology, the requirement for a company's compliance and security measures to be top-notch will be large.
