Xerox software to reduce printer downtime
Tuesday 28 November, 2006
Xerox has developed some new software to add to its office management solutions that the company has said will reduce printer downtime.
Print Infrastructure Mining (Pim) is the feature of the XOS version 4.2 software that it is believed will tackle the issue of printer downtime. Pim creates a map of the printer network allowing problems to be easily located and rectified.
"The addition of Pim to the XOS tool suite gives Xerox service people greater insight into the relationship between print networks and their users' behaviour," said John Hopwood, director and general manager, Xerox Global Services, Xerox UK.
"It means that, instead of making decisions based on manually gathered, historical data, we can act quickly based on real-time information. For the customer that means increased productivity and less cost."
When printers are running low on toner or paper, this is also identified by Pim with one of its numerous warning lights flashing to alert users. Printer traffic problems can also be acknowledged and brought to the user's attention by the software.
The company has also recently launched a piece of optimiser software designed to improve accounting efficiency at small and medium-sized businesses.
