HP ink cartridges and printers were in high demand during the final quarter of 2010, according to new data.

A report by IDC revealed that between October and December last year, more than 15.5 million HP printers were shipped across the world.

This is ten per cent higher than the amount recorded a year earlier and the biggest figure it has seen for a single three-month period since late 2007.

IDC said the statistics show HP "dominated" the market at the end of 2010, well ahead of rivals such as Canon and Epson.

Indeed, Canon only managed to secure a five per cent increase in the number of shipments throughout this period, while Epson saw a two per cent year-on-year rise.

HP was found to occupy a 42.5 per cent share of the global printer market in the final quarter of the year – two per cent more than in the same period of 2009.

The report came after HP revealed that revenues in its Imaging and Printing Group during the fiscal quarter ending January 31st were seven per cent up on the previous year.
