A young monkey has caused quite a scene at an airport in India, a report says.

The country's Daily News and Analysis news service said that the monkey, which had somehow sustained an injury, made its way to one of the gates at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport and then refused to leave.

While the monkey stayed at the airport's Gate 8 for several hours, officials eventually got the animal out of the way.

However, it was not the presence of the monkey that caused a stir – rather it was the lack of response from the relevant authorities that led to anguish being caused.

An unnamed airport source told the news provider that the proper officials did not respond to requests for help, so after some time the airport contacted some NGOs for assistance. However, these also did not come to the rescue.

"We are not trained to catch monkeys and many of us also got frightened," the source said.

Eventually, however, the monkey was rounded up and put in a cage, and has since been taken by officials from Kankaria Zoo.
