Printer supplies manufacturer Canon has said it will be supporting Visa pour l'Image 2011, an annual photojournalism festival held in Perpignan, France.

The company has been sponsoring the event for over 22 years, striving to improve communications with professionals around the world to offer them increasingly innovative products, as well as gathering the biggest audience possible to appreciate the work of photojournalists.

This year, Dutch photographer Ilvy Njiokiktjien – winner of the Canon Femail Photojournalist Award 2011 – will be honoured at the event and presented with a grant of €8,000 (£7,073) on September 3rd during a special ceremony.

Various seminars and presentations on a range of topics will also be put on by a range of industry and photographic professionals.

Canon is also thought to be investigating mirrorless cameras so as to make its products more compact, allowing it to pack many up-market single-lens features into a much smaller design, the head of its camera division Masaya Maeda hinted in an interview with Reuters.
