Individuals using Canon ink supplies to print out their favourite pictures may be interested in a selection of new cameras announced by the company.

The manufacturer unveiled the Ixus 500 HS and Ixus 125 HS compact digital devices that is says should be ideal for individuals looking to take high-quality snaps on holidays or nights out.

Both models feature a range of Canon's imaging technologies, such as the HS system, which gives detailed results without having to use the flash, even in low-light conditions.

They also have the maker's Smart Auto innovation that can detect up to 58 different scenarios and apply the most suitable settings in order to produce the best possible picture on every occasion.

While the 125 HS offers a 5x optical zoom and a 10.1-megapixel sensor, the more powerful 500 HS comes with a 12x zoom and a 16.1-megapixel sensor.

Also announced by the Canon this week is the PowerShot G1 X, which the firm states is intended for serious photographers and is to be the flagship model at the top end of the G-series range.
