Facebook has added a selection of new apps to its service that can allow people to share their interests with friends.

The additions are part of the Timeline feature and the current batch includes offerings dedicated to activities such as shopping, travel and fashion.

They have been created in association with popular internet companies such as TripAdvisor, Ticketmaster and Rotten Tomatoes.

Director of platform at Facebook Carl Sjogreen stated on the website's blog that as the Timeline feature grows, new apps will be made available to cover a wide range of interests.

"Whether you love snowboarding, gardening, hiking, or knitting, or something else, there will be an app for you," he stated.

Users will be able to choose who can see the activities they catalogue using these apps and edit a range of settings through Facebook's Activity Log, he continued.

Last month, a study by YouGov suggested Facebook could displace Google as the first port of call for many people when they go online in 2012.
