Keen photographers looking for ink cartridges to print out their best snaps may be interested in a new camera set to be released by Nikon.

The firm has announced the launch of the D4, which is set to become the flagship model in its DSLR range and is claimed to offer unrivalled results.

Product manager for Nikon UK Kentaro Kusakari said the device will set a new benchmark for digital photography thanks to its 16.2 megapixel sensor and powerful EXPEED 3 image processing engine.

"We're proud to be launching a new flagship model that exceeds the capabilities of its world renowned predecessor, the Nikon D3," he added, noting the gadget will help professionals "push the limits of photography".

As well as sharp still images, the D4 is also claimed to be able to create broadcast quality video, shooting at a high-definition resolution of 1080p at up to 30 frames per second.

Recently, three Nikon digital cameras, the Coolpix P300, AW100 and D5100, received prestigious accolades from the iF Design Awards 2012.
